How to create a loveable character.

I'll give you five important steps to get you started.
1. They should be complex.
2. They should have faults but not terrible ones that turn us off them.
3. They should be someone we can identify with/relate to.
4. They should be someone we want to be friends with.
5. They get things wrong.

Okay, let me explain a little further...
1. If your character is too predictable people will get bored. They should have layers, which can change. An interesting character can change as your story goes on.
2. You might be thinking 'faults? thats a bad thing right?' Wrong! Your character (most likely) is only human. Every person has faults and if you pick the right ones, you can make a great character.
3. When your read about a character you want to be able to say, i know how they feel or i've done that. When you feel like u relate to someone you will like them more.
4. Well this is a given, if your trying to make a likeable character dont make him the bad guy. Your bad guy is a totally different thing. When making a thrilling and "likeable" bad guy your going to want to make them exciting, witty or smart, strong etc...
5. Again your character is probably only human so they will get things wrong. Be careful with this one, if your character gets things wrong constantly and they cant fix their problems, well then ur reader is just going to find them annoying and constantly thinking "why did you do that!!??"

Agree or disagree?? Would like to hear what you think, post a comment
