How to create a loveable character.

I'll give you five important steps to get you started.
1. They should be complex.
2. They should have faults but not terrible ones that turn us off them.
3. They should be someone we can identify with/relate to.
4. They should be someone we want to be friends with.
5. They get things wrong.

Okay, let me explain a little further...
1. If your character is too predictable people will get bored. They should have layers, which can change. An interesting character can change as your story goes on.
2. You might be thinking 'faults? thats a bad thing right?' Wrong! Your character (most likely) is only human. Every person has faults and if you pick the right ones, you can make a great character.
3. When your read about a character you want to be able to say, i know how they feel or i've done that. When you feel like u relate to someone you will like them more.
4. Well this is a given, if your trying to make a likeable character dont make him the bad guy. Your bad guy is a totally different thing. When making a thrilling and "likeable" bad guy your going to want to make them exciting, witty or smart, strong etc...
5. Again your character is probably only human so they will get things wrong. Be careful with this one, if your character gets things wrong constantly and they cant fix their problems, well then ur reader is just going to find them annoying and constantly thinking "why did you do that!!??"

Agree or disagree?? Would like to hear what you think, post a comment

Your Story?

I never know what to write on here and then i thought that you probably find it quite boring just reading it. So what are you writing? Tell me about your novel, the story on your computer or in a note book locked away somewhere, the story you rewrite over and over but just cant get it right. If you have questions or a point to make tell me/ask me. This post is for you to tell me about your writing. Go for it.

I Just CANT!!

So i have this story idea and i have tried a billion times to get it down. People say 'put it away and try again later.' So thats what i do every time. This is what you should do. But what ever you do, the WORST thing you could do is give up. Do you think JK Rowling got a pen and paper, wrote down harry potter first try and got it perfect? Nah, i didn't think so either. So you have a story put away somewhere or you cant decide wether to give it a go. DO IT!! If you fail, you pick yourself up and fix it. Put it away for a while. Learn about writing. PRACTISE! If you love writing then try and you WILL get better. Don't give up! Good Luck. Tell me what you get up to ;)

When a book lets you down.

You relied on that book the moment you picked it off the shelf and read its first caring words. it took you through funny times, sad times, the suspense and romance. But what happens when you turn the page and something totally unexpected happens. What do you do when that book that made you sit down with it instead of your friends tells you that the character you love is dead, that the pure perfect loveable friend has turned against you, when what was meant to be exciting and shocking, was hurtful and such a disappointment. Why? Why would that book do such a hurtful thing.
So you put it down and you think, its over. You close the book *without* putting the book mark back or folding down the page. Your book has let you down, the happy feeling you asked it to supply has given you a cruel hurtful stutter. The book you asked for horror and excitement gave you a mushy romance as the monster fell in love with the victim. You book has let you down. Have you ever felt like this?

Sherlock Homes

I have just seen sherlock homes and LOVED it!! What did you think? I liked his character because he was very smart and quick for answers. Very formal when he spoke and just very intelligent. Though he was also at times very funny and quirky. When things were serious he would say a silly line like a child would say. He had flaws that made him more likeable. Not ones that made him irritable. I have done a lot of looking at what makes a good character. What do you think makes a good character? Ant comment you can write in the comment spot... as a given.
Thanks for reading, come back soon!!
